Chris and Catherine, a mother and daughter team, started Last Wishes when they saw that people were really struggling to pay the exorbitant fees often being charged for funerals today. Not everyone is able to find £3,500 to £4,500 at the drop of a hat.
Both have spent most of their lives working with people, Chris in alternative therapy clinics and Catherine with brain-injured adults in a specialist unit.
Alternative funerals seemed like a natural extension to what we had already been doing: caring for people. That’s what we still do – we care for the loved one who has left you but also for those of you left behind.
It is an honour to be entrusted with taking care of someone’s loved one, to know that we have helped families and friends at a most distressing time.
OUR ETHOS: TO MAKE FUNERALS LESS OF A FINANCIAL BURDEN
A funeral does not have to be expensive for it to be personal and meaningful – far from it.
So, how do we make funerals more affordable? We do this in 4 main ways:
- Keeping our overheads to a minimum;
- Helping you find lower-cost options;
- Encouraging you – with our help and guidance – to do as much as you can for yourselves;
- Not ‘padding’ the costs of ancillary services
Of course, there are still some quite high costs over which we have no control, in particular the fees for crematoria and grave sites, both of which vary from area to area.
